--------------------------------------- First Ever AfterZone Summer Program a Smash Hit!Approximately 150 young people swam, played tennis, climbed the ropes at YMCA’s Camp Shephard, went to the zoo, danced and discovered new worlds in Providence through a pilot AfterZone summer program for four weeks this July. Through a partnership with John Hope Settlement House, the Providence Housing Authority, West End Community Center, the YMCA, and the Mayor’s Substance Abuse Prevention Council, the PASA team was able to offer a multi-site program that allowed middle school students from across the city to attend programming four afternoons a week. In addition, with funding from Workforce Solutions of Providence and Cranston, 39 high school students helped to staff the program as well as received peer leadership training, visited local colleges, and gained valuable job skills.
