What better way to get to know PASA's work than to see it in action?
For the past two summers, PASA’s AfterZone Summer Scholars Program has targeted students from Providence middle schools testing just below proficiency in math and literacy. The Summer Scholars program focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills and combines the best of formal teaching with the best of after-school and youth development to provide students with hands-on learning experiences to build skills in STEM subjects. The program utilizes teaching teams that consist of a district teacher, a community-based STEM educator, and an AfterZone staff member to co-teach a 4-week curriculum. The teams engage in intensive joint planning before the program begins to incorporate academic content with hands-on learning.
