Family & Youth

Parents: Do any of these concerns plague you?

  • I worry about my child’s academic performance
  • I wonder what my child does after school before I come home
  • I wish I could connect my child with a positive adult role model
  • I want my child to be exposed to different career opportunities and skills

High-quality after-school programming is the answer to these concerns. After-school programming:

  • Makes academics relevant and complements in-school learning
  • Keeps youth engaged in a seamless day of learning, even after the bell rings
  • Connects youth with caring adults invested in their achievement
  • Allows youth to learn about real-life skills and careers

For Middle School Parents

Here in Providence, there is a free and engaging array of coordinated after-school activities for middle school youth – the AfterZones. AfterZones are “neighborhood campuses” of after-school activity that operate from 2:30-5:15pm. All middle school students – whether they attend public, private or parochial schools – are eligible to attend the AfterZones. Learn more about the AfterZones and how to get involved or register your child.

For Elementary & High School Parents

Currently, PASA only coordinates programs for the middle school youth, but we have begun planning a new high school initiative that will begin implementation in late 2009.

Choosing a High Quality After-School Program

It can be hard to find a program that is right for you or for your son or daughter. Many young people leave programs because they aren’t satisfied. Finding the right after-school program involves asking questions. Learn questions that will help you determine the right program for you and your son or daughter.
