RHODE ISLAND-BASED ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE INFORMED PASA'S WORK
A number of organizations in Rhode Island are doing great work to promote and support after school statewide. The following organizations have been important partners in PASA's work:
City of Providence
The Providence, RI homepage has a multitude of resources and information for Providence residents
Providence Public School District
The PPSD website contains information about all of the schools in which PASA is offering after school programming as well as other basic information about the school department's work.
Rhode Island Afterschool Plus Alliance (RIASPA)
RIASPA is an advocacy and mobilizing coalition that works to envision a Rhode Island that maximizes how, when, and where children and youth learn to ensure their success. PASA and RIASPA partner extensively on the quality improvement strategy, especially professional development.
Rhode Island KIDS COUNT
The mission of Rhode Island KIDS COUNT is to improve the health, safety, education, economic security, and development of Rhode Island's children. Their website is a great resource for state specific data on indicators of child well being.
BrightStars
BrightStars is a quality rating and improvement system (QRIS) with a mission to help child care providers in Rhode Island learn about best practices in early learning and recognize program quality in order to give parents information to make choices about their children's care and education. QRIS initiatives exist in many states across the country, and although each state model is unique, all QRIS programs are designed to rate the quality or level of a child care program, identify areas for improvement, inform consumers about levels of quality, and target quality improvement resources. BrightStars is managed by the Rhode Island Association for the Education of Young Children (RIAEYC). Rhode Island KIDS COUNT coordinates and supports the evaluation of BrightStars.
RI STEM Center
The Center is the state’s primary educational hub, resource, and research collaborative, established to increase interest in and advancement of STEM in Rhode Island. The Center provides state-of-the-art professional development; collects and disseminates best practices; and fosters networks and partnerships among PK-12 teachers, teacher candidates, higher education faculty, students, parents, and other community stakeholders.
