The AfterZone Summer Scholars Program ended on July 29 – the culmination of 4-weeks of community- and school district-educators joining forces to co-lead hands-on, academically enriched programs for middle school youth. Education staff from Save the Bay, Museum of Natural History & Planetarium, Apeiron Institute for Sustainable Living, and Providence ¡CityArts! for Youth each collaborated with Providence math and English language arts teachers in developing curricula for the summer program, attending professional development trainings, and ultimately coming together to lead programming.
As a final act, youth shared their summer learnings with youth from each of the four cohorts, cycling through classrooms for presentations and Q&A sessions. Projects include examples of solar-powered fans, reports on dinosaur fossils, water pollution, ceramics, and crabs in Narragansett Bay.
