Job Description
The Providence After School Alliance’s (PASA) mission is to expand and improve quality expanded learning opportunities for Providence youth by organizing a citywide public/private system. Working in tandem with one another, PASA’s AfterZone (for middle school) and Hub (for high school) initiatives offer Providence young people multiple pathways to learning beginning in middle school and continuing through high school. PASA is looking for a dynamic program coordinator to join the Quality Improvement department, overseeing the planning and delivery of a summer learning program that serves 500 Providence middle school youth citywide and contributing to the ongoing piloting and assessment of new approaches in out-of-school-time learning. This position offers the opportunity to work on programs highlighted as national models in approaches to informal STEM education as well as bridging the divide of formal and informal educators.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Summer program planning and implementation
Characterized by a collaborative educational approach between community and formal educators, the AfterZone Summer Scholars Camp aims to engage youth in relevant and experiential learning. Responsibilities for the planning and implementation of the camp include:
• In partnership with Senior PASA staff, spearhead the successful planning and implementation of the AfterZone Summer Scholars Camp, including contract procurement and management, fiscal management, staff hiring and planning, program evaluation, and program communications
• Facilitate regular planning meetings and workgroups with internal middle school program staff to prepare for summer program implementation
• Identify and solve logistical challenges to ensure the successful daily operations of the AfterZone Summer Scholars program, including transportation, snacks, communications, and other needs identified through the planning process
• Serve as liaison to community program providers, vendors, Providence school teachers, and PASA staff
• Promote positive youth development practices and an engaging camp culture Evaluation & Data Management PASA is dedicated to delivering the best possible youth programs through a continuous quality improvement cycle. This role plays an integral part in helping to assess quality, interpret findings and use data to make strategic program decisions. Responsibilities include:
• Assure that all summer participation data is accurately tracked and entered on a timely basis
• Assist with the implementation and analysis of participant and partner surveys and focus group data
• Prepare any necessary final reporting for PASA, documenting all aspects of planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of summer programming
• Conduct program observations & feedback sessions
• Use statistics and trends from program evaluation reports to strategize innovations to program practice, structure and goals
• Participate in data-driven dialogue to inform program selection decisions
This role will also have the opportunity to engage in the following activities as desired:
• Align socio-emotional and academic evaluation tools to youth outcomes to create an online badging system of skills
• Review current research and policy in Out-of-School-Time and Education field
Qualifications:
Required:
• BA degree or equivalent blend of experience and education
• Program management experience, including work with youth learning and development programs
• Experience managing staff and/or volunteers
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including large and small group facilitation
• Strong organizational management skills
• Proven team leadership
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data management software
Desired:
• Experience leading and coordinating youth programming, especially youth ages 11-14
• Knowledge of informal STEM, sports, recreation, arts and leadership programs, curriculum and/or approaches
• Understanding of evaluation methodologies and interpreting statistical data
• A working understanding of experiential and inquiry-based learning
• Intermediate Spanish language skills
The salary range for this position is mid 30Ks, depending on experience with a comprehensive benefits package. Position to begin as soon as possible.
