PASA is currently seeking a candidate for the position of Nathanael Greene AfterZone Site Coordinator for the AfterZone Summer Scholars Camps. The Nathanael Greene AfterZone Site Coordinator will manage one of six school camp sites and support a diverse and talented group of community educators to provide a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) focused, hands-on, project based summer learning camp for 84 middle school youth. The AfterZone Summer Scholars Camp will take place from July 7th-July 31st, 2014 at all six Providence public middle schools.
The Nathanael Greene AfterZone Site Coordinator will start part time beginning in March with an average of 30 hours per month and transition to a maximum of 35 hours per week during June for the duration of the camp.
Job Responsibilities
The Nathanael Greene Site Coordinator will help plan, prepare, and deliver a high-quality, 4-week summer program for 84 Providence middle school youth at Nathanael Greene. In addition, the Site Coordinator will be responsible for the successful implementation of daily operations during the summer program. This includes supervision of three STEM teams, AfterZone staff, and contracted program providers, as well as managing student transitions and dismissal. Specifically, we anticipate the following activities:
Orientation, professional development, and planning
The Site Coordinator will attend ALL orientation, professional development, and planning sessions beginning in March and ending prior to the start of camp. AfterZone Site Coordinators will be expected to attend all of sessions assigned to their role. Planning and Program Design
1. The Site Coordinator will create staff plan for up to four support staff.
2. The Site Coordinator will provide curricular feedback and support to assigned STEM Educator teams.
3. The Site Coordinator will facilitate planning and training sessions with the full Nathanael Greene Summer Scholars team.
4. The Site Coordinator will create camp culture plan for site.
5. The Site Coordinator will and plan structure for youth final STEM presentations on last day of camp session for school site.
Program implementation & system operations
1. The Site Coordinator will lead student recruitment and registration during March through June 2014.
2. The Site Coordinator will oversee the successful daily implementation of shared scheduling, programming, snack distribution and transportation.
3. The Site Coordinator will be available and accessible for daily communication with parents, youth, school staff and faculty, as well as Summer Scholars staff.
4. The Site Coordinator will supervise AfterZone Summer Scholars Camp staff, including community educators, teachers, and program providers.
5. The Site Coordinator will create an environment that incorporates both camp culture and summer learning for youth and adults.
Data and program quality
1. The Site Coordinator will oversee and supervise the collection and input of youth data used to measure youth participation and retention.
2. The Site Coordinator will review and monitor tracking tool and utilize daily data with program providers and the AfterZone team to manage summer camp enrollment, participation retention, and family outreach plans.
3. The Site Coordinator will work with the AfterZone Director and AfterZone Scholars Coordinator to evaluate programming and site practice using STEM PQA validated program assessment tool to ensure that youth participate in a quality learning experience.
4. The Site Coordinator will review, monitor, and distribute program data to program providers, school administration, direct supervisor and PASA staff on a weekly basis via web-based program management tool.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for the position include
a) a BA or AA in Education or related field with at least 2 years supervising education and enrichment programs with school-age youth,
b) ability to manage 13+ staff members,
c) administrative skills (proficiency in Microsoft applications, office management, ability to compile notes and e-mail notices, etc.), including ability to understand and manage budgets,
d) must be available during school hours for student recruitment purposes,
e) experience working in community-based programs, with a clear understanding of urban issues and communities, and
f) experience using data management systems.
Desired qualifications for the position include
a) a working knowledge of Providence and the AfterZone communities,
b) fluency in Spanish (or other languages),
c) a working understanding of human services, youth development, and current trends in after-school programs,
d) experience working with middle school youth or in a school setting,
e) experience working with databases, online resources, etc., and
f) working towards Masters degree or 2+ years of related professional experience.
Remuneration
Applicants will be interviewed for open positions; educators selected for the AfterZone Summer Scholars Camp will be hired as seasonal and/or part-time Providence After School Alliance employees for the full AfterZone Summer Scholars Camp. Payment will range from $16.00-$18.00 per hour based on experience; a maximum number of hours are set based on required training and program implementation hours. The coordinator will submit bi-weekly timesheets for review and for payment.
