The Providence After School Alliance (PASA) collaborates with the City of Providence, the Providence Public School District (PPSD) and the local community to build, operate, and support two major initiatives – the AfterZone for middle school youth and the Hub for high school youth. The AfterZone and Hub are citywide systems of hands-on, community-based, after-school and expanded learning programs.
The Hub
The Hub operates in close partnership with the Providence public high schools and in alliance with over 20 community providers to ensure young people have access to high-quality, expanded learning, and after-school activities. PASA and our partners believe that these opportunities should provide youth with hands‐on, competency‐based learning experiences that support PASA’s graduate profile of skills and prepares students for life beyond high school in both career and academic pathways.
The goals of ELOs are to provide youth with hands-on, competency-based learning experiences, while earning course credits outside of– but connected to– the traditional school day. They enable students to exercise their critical thinking skills, build their communication abilities, and learn by asking questions, while working with local STEM, arts, and sports professionals who help inform their college and career aspirations.
To ensure that young people have access to high-quality ELOs, PASA partners with the Providence Public Schools and invites non-profit organizations, businesses, and industry partners to apply to provide Expanded Learning Opportunities. Program providers must serve a minimum of four students over 10 or more weeks at Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex, Hope High School, E-Cubed Academy and 360 High School. This opportunity is ideal for existing funded programs looking to work with PASA and Providence Public Schools to further develop their programs and to be eligible to provide credit-bearing opportunities for high school youth.
