PASA’s Summer Scholars Program Photo Round Up!

PASA’s 2011 Summer Scholars Program was one of the most exciting yet! This summer’s programs focused primarily on innoavtive, hands-on approches to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and had students engaged in activities as varied as building solar-powered go-carts, learning about local ecologies, and calculating acceleration and velocity on a sailboat, just to name a few.

While we’re gearing up for the next round of AfterZone fall programming, take a look at some of the great work the students, staff, and teachers and community partners did this summer.

During Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s Urban Naturalist program, students learned about food systems and local wildlife habitats.

Scientific concentration in action at The Museum of Natural History’s MNH Science Alliance program. Students conducted a series of experiments to uncover the mysteries behind a variety of natural phenomena.

Ajibola waiting for the race to begin as part of Center For Dynamic Learning’s Mechatronics program. Students worked in teams to design and build solar-powered go-cats and dune buggies. The program culminated in a road race through a Southside neighborhood.

Dimetri and Crystal prepare to hoist a sail at Community Boating Center’s SailZone program. Students learned about the geometry and physics involved in sailing.

Thanks to all of the community partners, educators and students who made this summer a memorable one!
